Continue to the Plaza de Armas. Around the square today the buildings of the Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the National Historical Museum and the Illustrious Municipality of Santiago are erected. Afterwards we will visit the Pre-Columbian Chilean Museum and the Illustrious Municipality of Santiago. We will finish in the Plaza de la Constitución, which with its privileged view of the government palace "La Moneda", will serve as a site to address the historic landmarks from Independence to the present day. We visit the Republica and Concha de Toro neighborhood before returning to the hotel. After lunch, we will go to the La Chascona Museum, located in the Barrio Bellavista in Santiago. This unique museum is one of the three houses of Pablo Neruda, the famous poet and diplomat who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. In 1953, Pablo Neruda began to build this house for Matilde Urrutia, his secret love and in his honor was named the house "La Chascona" after his nickname that arose because of his abundant red hair. During your visit, you can see a large collection of an interesting gallery with works by Chilean and foreign painters from different periods of time. You will also have the opportunity to experience Neruda's surroundings, such as the impressive dining room with original crockery and cutlery. For your convenience, the museum has a self-guided audio system, available in English, French, Portuguese, German and Spanish. Finally, we will return to your hotel.
We will drive along Route 68 from Santiago to the Pacific coast, arriving at Valparaíso, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, mainly due to its architecture. Then we will continue the journey to Viña del Mar to admire its beaches and other main attractions.
Later we will return to Route 68 towards Casablanca where the vineyards tempt the cold climate of the Pacific as they get closer and closer to its coast in this relatively new wine region. The vines perch on the rolling slopes just 4 km from the sea, challenging the character of the cultivators and winemakers of strong vocation.
In 1999, the Matetic family decided to diversify their business and enter the world of wine, trusting in the virtues of climate and soils in Valle del Rosario. With the firm conviction of the vital importance of maintaining a strong professional, they incorporated external consultants into the project to ensure that the wines of Viña Matetic reach the highest quality. Viña Matetic produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. The visit begins at the reception of the winery. Visitors are welcomed by a bilingual guide who will invite you to learn about the history of the vineyard, organic and biodynamic agriculture and the winemaking process, while enjoying panoramic views of the vineyards. The tank rooms, the beautiful and quiet aging room and the architecture of the cellar are all highlights of the visit. The tour ends with a wine tasting, either in the underground tasting room or on the outside terrace with views of the vines. After the tour, we will enjoy a lunch at the Equilibrio restaurant in Matetic, enjoying drinks from its most exquisite productions.
